The Sylvia Wright Trust

The Sylvia Wright Trust, based in Leeds, has 12 members with a range of backgrounds, skills and faiths. There are no paid staff. Its primary objective is to raise funds for projects in India. By keeping expenses to a minimum, 97 pence out of every pound raised is sent to India.

For the last 38 years the Trust has paid for buildings, equipment and vehicles and met almost all running costs relating to the School for the Deaf and the Day Centre for the Disabled. The Nursing College is self financing in respect of running costs but the Trust has funded all the facilities.

At todays prices, the Trust has sent around £10 million to its Indian projects.

Patrons of the Trust include: The Abbott of Ampleforth; The Catholic and Anglican Bishops of Leeds; The Chairman of Leeds Methodist District; The Leeds Hindu Temple; and The Moderator of URC Yorkshire Province.

A support network, including many churches, school groups and individual benefactors, reflects a true spirit of co-operation and unity. Funds are raised via standing orders, sponsorship, legacies, one-off donations and the sale of Christmas cards – all with a significant amount of Gift Aid.
